After Katrina, my husband got in touch with some of his contacts in the gaming industry with an idea to put together a book in tribute to the New Orleans region and raise some money for hurricane relief. So, many volunteers and 150 or so pages later, the book is availabe as a pdf or in a print-on-demand version.
This isn't an amatuer book. Most of the people involved are full-time writers, editors, artists and designers. All of the royalties are going right to the Red Cross Katrina Relief Fund.
And the book is not just for gamers. While a lot of the material is geared that way, the book also includes a fair amount of fiction, a couple of essays and a poem. And even the gaming material isn't all numbers and dice rolling, there's some very nice writing on the NOLA setting. It's a really good book of which all of us involved feel proud to have had our roles big or small.
If you get a chance, please check out the book at the Website below. Better yet, order one for everyone on your "winter holiday of your choice" list.
I've hated selling things no matter the cause since the days back with cookies, so this isn't easy for me. This project was so worthwhile, though, that I hope some of the community finds it of interest.
