So, my husband and I had free babysitting last night (Thanks, Mom!), so we headed out for a night on the town. Dinner was great, and the company was, of course, wonderful.
And then things went to shit because we decided to see Carlos Mencia. I honestly felt sick by the time we finally got our check and got out the door, which was before the end of the act. My regret is that we didn't just get the check, two-drink minimum be damned. I'll explain how much the show sucked in the extended.
If Mencia comes to a comedy club near you, don't waste your money. What a self-righteous Republican-sounding ass he was. And not even an original self-righteous Republican-sounding ass, as his take on the "stupid" hurricane victims was nothing you couldn't get on Free Republic. I'm sure none of you have heard it was built between a lake and the Gulf of Mexico, ha! And did you know n--- can't swim? Oh, and they should ahve left, because anyone with a brain would have! Knee-slapping stuff, eh?
He's the kind of guy, too, that insists it's your fault for being offended and wants to "free white people to enjoy racist humor." Yes, entirely too little of that in the current climate.
The audience reaction, I thought, was pretty mixed, which is a decent sign here in central Ohio. But I have not been so jaw-droppingly offended by "humor" since I saw a Second City show where they mocked Christopher Reeve, and at least I could respect that one as clever, original and edgy. This was just pedestrian, boring mean-spiritedness. And when I say this was jaw-droppingly bad, I mean it literally. My mouth was hanging open, and I knew it was hanging open, and I couldn't control it.
I'm just so freaking angry that I needed to vent, and I wanted to warn people off, as I think Mencia's tour is national to promote his new Comedy Central show. My husband had been enjoying that, but he watched last night's performance and said, "There's something coming off the TiVo list."
