Here's a neat little story that I think is wonderful fun for conspiracy-happy hearts like my own.
Short version: The man in charge of PR for the military base in Roswell, N.M., in 1947 died a couple of years ago. He left an affidavit to be opened only after his death, and its contents were publicly released last week. It contains his sworn statements that he saw an alien spacecraft, alien bodies and was involved in the decision to make up the weather balloon story.
I have always been fascinated by the idea of space travel, and I certainly don't put it past the U.S. government to cover up such discoveries to "protect" us.
I'm curious what other people think of this "astonishing twist" to this old story that I have always found fascinating. It seems to me something more than a weather balloon crash happened in Roswell, but I always assumed it was some sort of military testing.
The alien crash idea always struck me as more interesting but unlikely to the point of perhaps ridiculous. (Also, it was the basis of one of my favorite Star Trek: Deep Space 9 episodes.) Still, I found this article gave me a bit of a thrill to read.
Is there anyone else fascinated with what it might mean if there is actually some group of beings from some other planet in this universe landed here? And does anyone else worry that we probably fucked the whole first contact up?
Anyway, I suppose this might be anti-science Monday, but I thought some of my fellow Kossacks might find it of interest.
